Structure of the Cortona Summer School
The Cortona Summer School in Mathematics focuses on advanced topics and is primarily intended for doctoral students interested in pursuing research in the thematic areas addressed by the School. Applications from candidates holding a Master’s degree who are not yet enrolled in a doctoral program may also be considered.
Applicants are kindly requested to consult this page for the opening and closing dates of the application period and to carefully follow the provided instructions. After the application deadline, the Steering Committee will evaluate all submissions and communicate the outcome of the selection procedure individually to each candidate.
Shortly after the publication of the results, admitted candidates are required to complete their enrolment. A registration fee of €100 is foreseen.
Admitted participants will be accommodated at the “Palazzone” at the expense of SMI. In addition, SMI will provide lunches at the Palazzone from Monday to Friday.
The Cortona Summer School lasts two weeks. Teaching activities take place from Monday to Friday and are structured as follows:
• The course is delivered by two professors.
• Two 55-minute lectures are held each morning, from Monday to Friday.
• Afternoon exercise sessions and seminars are scheduled from Monday to Friday.
At the conclusion of the School, the two professors will evaluate the participating SMI students on the basis of the seminars presented during the course. The local administrative office will issue a certificate of attendance.
In order to obtain the certificate of attendance, attendance at all lectures and exercise sessions and the presentation of a seminar for each course are strictly mandatory. Absences during the entire duration of the School are not permitted; any absence will result in exclusion from the program.
Applications must be submitted online via the SMI website at this page
