Structure of the Perugia Summer School
The Perugia Summer School in Mathematics focuses on advanced topics and is primarily intended for graduates holding a Master’s degree and for PhD students in the early stages of their doctoral studies who wish to further develop and consolidate their academic training. Applications from Bachelor’s degree holders currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme may also be considered.
Applicants are kindly requested to consult this page for the opening and closing dates of the application period and to carefully follow the provided instructions. After the application deadline, the Governing Board will evaluate all submissions and communicate the outcome of the selection procedure individually to each candidate.
Shortly after the publication of the results, admitted candidates are required to complete their enrolment. A registration fee of €100 is foreseen.
Participants admitted to the School will be accommodated in student university residences, with accommodation expenses covered by SMI. The School will also provide a fixed number of dinners to all students, depending on the type of residence assigned. During the final week, a social dinner funded by SMI will also be organized.
Each participant is required to attend two courses. The selected courses must be indicated at the time of application and will be confirmed by the Governing Board following the evaluation process. Applicants are required to indicate three courses in order of preference. In the event of excessive enrolment in a course, the Governing Board reserves the right to replace one of the first two selected courses with the third indicated option.
The Perugia Summer School lasts four weeks. Teaching activities take place from Monday to Friday and are structured as follows:
• 55-minute lectures every morning, from Monday to Friday.
• Two afternoon exercise sessions per week, each lasting one and a half hours.
• One written examination scheduled during the final week of classes.
Until Wednesday of the first week, participants may request, subject to authorization by the local Director of the School, a change to one of the two assigned courses.
At the conclusion of the School, each professor will evaluate the participating SMI students according to the criteria specified during the first lecture. The local administrative office will issue a certificate of participation.
In order to obtain the certificate of participation, attendance at all lectures and exercise sessions and completion of the examinations for both courses are strictly mandatory. Absences during the entire duration of the School are not permitted; any absence will result in exclusion from the program.
Applications must be submitted online via the SMI website at this page
